What a brand platform is and why you need one

A 5–10 page document that saves months of internal arguments about what the brand should be.

What a brand platform is and why you need one

A brand platform isn't an investor deck or a manifesto for the website. It's an internal working document the team comes back to every time it has to decide: should we shoot this ad, launch this collab, answer this comment this way.

What it's made of

A minimum working platform answers five questions: who we exist for; what problem we solve that competitors don't solve as well; what we believe in and what we refuse on principle; what tone we speak in; which 3–5 visual and verbal markers make us unmistakable.

Why the team stalls without one

Without a platform every decision is made from scratch, to the taste of whoever is loudest at the moment. The SMM manager shoots content in one tone, the designer draws in another, sales promises a third — and for the customer the brand splits into several different impressions that never add up to trust.

The platform doesn't need to be long. We've seen 40-page documents nobody opened after the presentation, and one-page documents that actually hung above the art director's desk and did their job.
